N S O E

When the Tramontana or north winds blow

Head south of Otranto to enjoy the calm sea and full sunshine.

  • Breakfast in Castro:  start your morning at Martinucci with a pasticciotto leccese and a caffè leccese overlooking the beautiful bay. If you love craftsmanship, visit ArteFatto in Castro Vecchia for unique pieces and authentic Salento keepsakes.
  • Dive at Acqua Viva:  visit the Grotta Azzurra, a magical spot best seen before noon when the light transforms it into a natural spectacle.
  • If you have a mask, stop to swim in the green cave
  • Nature break:  continue toward Tricase Sud to admire a 700-year-old oak tree, one of the largest in all of Puglia.
  • Marina Serra:  end your day at the famous natural pool, and for the adventurous, explore Grotta Monaci, an enchanted corner that lights up at noon. You can also dive directly into the cave.

When the Scirocco or south winds blow

Stay near Otranto, where the sea is calmer and turquoise.

  • Breakfast at Moresco:  begin your day with a magnificent view of the city and bay.
  • Plan your beach adventure:  head to the beach early morning to enjoy the tranquility and the shifting hues of the water.

I luoghi più suggestivi:

Baia dell'Orte

A small secluded beach just minutes from Otranto, perfect for those seeking peace.

Baia dei Turchi

Clear sand and Caribbean-blue water, mostly free beach.

When the weather is less than ideal

Take advantage of cloudier days to discover other treasures of the territory.

  • Santa Cesarea Terme:  relax in the outdoor thermal pool for a moment of pure wellbeing.
  • Grotta della Zinzolusa (Castro):  one of the most beautiful sea caves in Salento.
  • Otranto Castle and its exhibitions:  history and culture in the heart of the city.
